Human Smuggling and Arizona Law
Beresky & Fish, P.C. — Criminal Defense Lawyers in Phoenix
Although human smuggling isn't a new phenomenon, Arizona's law making it a Class 4 felony is. Passed in 2005, Arizona's "Coyote" law is only one of the recent steps taken by our state in an effort to crack down on illegal immigration. The problem with this new law is that it defines the term "human smuggler" very broadly. Too often, people who have no direct connection to or knowledge of the human smuggling operation in question get arrested.
If you or someone close to you has recently been charged with human smuggling, you need strong legal representation and you need it now. For a free consultation, contact Beresky & Fish, P.C. today.
Our law firm handles cases involving charges of:
- Transporting illegal or undocumented aliens
- Aiding and abetting a human smuggling operation
- Aggravated assault
- Kidnapping
Putting Up an Aggressive Fight
Human smugglers have been defined to include anyone who physically tries to transport an illegal or undocumented alien AND anyone connected with the process of doing that. This includes anyone who has anything to do with the money involved or with "harboring" an undocumented or illegal alien along their way into the United States. What this means, for example, is that people who "hold" money in their bank accounts for friends or relatives involved in human smuggling could be arrested and face charges.
If you have found yourself in a situation like this, rest assured that as your attorneys we'll be as aggressive as we possibly can in defending you.
